Understanding Vacuum Forming Molds: Types and Characteristics

Vacuum forming processing is a popular plastic processing technology that involves heating and flattening a plastic sheet material, using vacuum adsorption on the surface of a mold, and cooling it after forming. This method is widely used in multiple industries such as packaging, lighting, advertising, decoration, etc.


To manufacture products with different shapes, molds are required in the production process. Blister molds are used in blister production, and they are drilled with small holes for vacuum adsorption of hot hard film to form blister products. The molds are available in various types such as wood, plaster, copper, and aluminum.


Wood molds are cost-effective, have a fast opening speed, and are generally used for sample molds of blister trays. However, they have low transparency and are prone to deformation. Gypsum molds have a short production cycle and low cost, but blister finished product surfaces can be rough, and the mold is not durable enough to produce deep, high complexity, or thick sheet products.


Copper molds are coated with a conductive agent and then electroplated with a thick copper layer to increase hardness. They are filled with plaster, polished, and air-punched. They have moderate production costs, strong durability, and produce blister products with relatively smooth surfaces. However, their long production cycle makes them unsuitable for precision blister products. Aluminum molds are the most expensive but offer high dimensional accuracy, durability, and high efficiency with a low reject rate. They are ideal for high volume and high-demand blister production.


In summary, gypsum molds are suitable for making samples, copper molds are ideal for blister packing with low curve requirements, and aluminum molds are the first choice for high-volume and high-demand blister production.
